GCNTDR publishes 2026–2027 strategy
Updated: Aug 14
The Global Centre for Neglected Tropical Disease Research (GCNTDR) has published its 2026–2027 strategy, setting out a renewed vision to strengthen One Health research, support endemic-country leadership and accelerate progress towards the World Health Organization's neglected tropical disease (NTD) road map targets.
Building on the legacy of the London Centre for Neglected Tropical Disease Research, the strategy reflects the Centre's transition to a global platform focused on collaborative research and capacity strengthening. Hosted by the Royal Veterinary College, the GCNTDR will bring together researchers, health ministry representatives, implementing partners, donors and other stakeholders to address the complex challenges facing NTD elimination.
Over the 2026–2027 period, the Centre will prioritise strengthening research capacity in endemic countries through training, networking and collaborative research. It will also promote interdisciplinary approaches that bring together human, animal and environmental health sectors, while advancing research on emerging challenges such as anthelmintic drug resistance to support sustainable disease control and elimination.
As part of the strategy, the GCNTDR will host its official launch event at the Royal Veterinary College in December 2026, bringing together global partners to introduce the Centre's new vision and strategic priorities. A second research event, planned for 2027, will focus on developing a collaborative research agenda for One Health and NTDs, with a strong emphasis on strengthening the eco-system between country-led priorities, research and implementation.
Alongside these flagship events, the Centre will continue to provide a platform to disseminate research and connect world-leading researchers with a shared vision for the control, elimination and eradication of NTDs.
