Cheikh is a physician, parasitologist and Lecturer in the Department of Parasitology–Mycology at Cheikh Anta Diop University, Dakar. He holds a Doctor of Medicine (2015) and a PhD in Human Biology and Pathology, Parasitology option (2025), and is a Fellow of the Plowright One Health Mentoring Scheme (POMS) at the Royal Veterinary College, University of London (2025).

His research focuses on the epidemiology, transmission and control of neglected tropical diseases, with particular specialisation in zoonotic and hybrid schistosomiasis. He applies a One Health approach, exploring the interfaces between human, animal and freshwater snail intermediate host populations in northern Senegal and, more recently, Burkina Faso. He has led and co-led several field studies on the morbidity and transmission dynamics of diseases affecting human populations (geohelminthiases) and livestock (fasciolosis).

Cheikh has authored publications in journals including The Lancet Planetary Health, PNAS, PLOS Neglected Tropical Diseases, Microorganisms, Heliyon and Advances in Infectious Diseases, and has presented his work at international conferences including those of the Society of African Parasitologists (SOAP), ASTMH and the British Society for Parasitology. He brings to the GCNTD Board strong expertise in schistosomiasis control, One Health surveillance and NTD research capacity-building in Africa.
